Any Company or organization that doesn’t have an online presence in today’s highly-connected world has virtually no chance of making it on a global scale.

There are thousands of websites in Uganda, which means that there is a lot of competition to make it to the list of most visited websites.

Alexa, a web traffic and analytics service provides information about websites including top sites, Internet traffic stats and metrics, related links, online ranking, online pedigree etc.

Using Alexa’s service, ThisisUganda reviewed the most visited websites in Uganda. Internet Giants such as Google, Facebook and Yahoo inevitably lead the pack.

The Following are the top 20 websites visited in Uganda:

  1. Google.com

To no surprise, crowning the list of the most visited website’s in Uganda is Google. Google also has made a point of rolling out localized websites for almost all countries where they have a presence, as it provides users with local information first before displaying international results. According to Alexa, the localized website is also the sixth most visited site in Uganda.

  1. Facebook.com

The most popular social networking site in the world is also number one in Uganda. Ever since the rise of Facebook, more and more users have been creating their accounts. It is now the fastest growing website in the country and second most visited behind Google.

  1. Youtube.com

YouTube, which is used to search and view videos comes in third place

  1. Yahoo.com

A major internet portal and service provider offering search results, customizable content, free e-mail etc.

Most Ugandans use yahoo for its email service Yahoomail

  1. Twitter.com

The famous site that promoted micro-blogging continues to grow and become more active. This is the go-to site for all users whether its celebrities or organisations. The simple interface has appealed to a lot of people and the website shows no signs of decline.

The localised version of the hugely popular Google search engine comes in number six. It’s global version google.com is the most visited website in Uganda.

Ask.com is a question question answering service and web search engine.

The ranking of the Daily Monitor as the most popular or at least the most visited Ugandan website is hardly surprising.

This highly independent news source is one the few ones in Uganda free from governmental influence.

It beats out its competition of the New vision and Red pepper.

LinkedIn provides the opportunity for users to build their business profile with important factors such as experience, education, and business networks.

The New Vision, is a government owned source. It is one of the popular Ugandan news source with round  the clock coverage to bring you local and international news as it happens when it happens.

Amazon.com is a site where people can find almost anything that they want to buy online. This site has launched Movies & TV Shows, Books, and they have expanded their offers and now also include the Amazon Fashion Store as well as numerous other products in many different categories.
